INTRODUCTION

I am a student of Gimnazija Jesenice and this report is for anyone thinking of visiting the capital of Austria. The purpose of this report is to inform people on this city. It presents the organized school trip to the festive Vienna on the 6th and the 7th of December 2020. It includes the organisation, attractions, food and expenses and my personal opinion on the trip.

ORGANISATION

The trip was set to start on 6th December and the students were instructed to meet in the car park behind the theatre at 4.45 a.m. The bus arrived in Vienna at approximately 10 a.m. After a full day of sight-seeing the students headed to the youth hostel where they spent the night and continued with the tour the next day. The bus departed Vienna at approximately 5.30 p.m. and arrived back to Slovenia at about 11 p.m.

ATTRACTIONS

Firstly, a quality tour of the city was given by a guide, to admire architectural features of hotels and theatres. On the first day they were shown the Schönbrunn Palace, Secession Building, The Town Hall, The Opera and The University, The Rektoratskirche, The Church of the Holy Ghost and were walked through The Hofburg Palace and festive market. The second day included a walk through the Belvedere Palace and the Hundertwasser buildings, a ride across the Danube bridge and a view of at the 150-meter-high Danube tower and the St. Stephen’s Cathedral. And lastly, after the visit to the St. Karel’s Church, there was the biggest Christmas market in front of the Town Hall.

FOOD AND EXPENSES

There is a lot of traditional Austrian cuisine that students could try, such as the Wiener schnitzel, the original sachertorte, the apfelstrudel and The Kaiserschmarrn. Everything, especially food, is very high-priced in Vienna, so if you are to visit Vienna be prepared to empty your pockets. The school trip cost 140 €, but since the food was expensive most students had to part from more money than planned.

PERSONAL OPINION

Personally, I believe I made the right choice taking part in the Vienna trip. For the attractions seen, the price was worth it. We had plenty of free time to enjoy ourselves and get the most of our trip.
